The code is public, so vulnerabilities can be found and solved really fast. OpenVPN also uses OpenSSL, which secures connections with a strong encryption. OpenVPN can be set up in a way that makes it impossible to distinguish internet traffic through this software from normal internet traffic. It is therefore extremely difficult to block.
